You know it is true. If you grew up int he church, chances are you spent the night at a retreat center or camp that could have been featured on an episode of Friday the 13th. It even brings up fears as I write this. Yet the most ironic part of this is, even as adults we send our children off to the same camps.

When I was a young person, my youth group (in Charlotte, NC)went to a place near Black Mountain. It was called “In the Oaks”. It was a giant mansion and if it were not a retreat center the ONLY thing it could have been was a haunted house. The adult counselors didn’t have to worry about any of us sneaking out because we were too scared to … I’m getting the creeps just thinking about that place.

cabins with no A/C. showers that were mostly cold. beds with mattresses so thin, it didn’t take a princess to feel a pea. atomic fireball wars. my mom as a GA camp counselor (now, THAT was scary…
those were the good old days
